Rice Lake Speedway Now Plans May 5th Opener

By Ed Reichert

Rice Lake WI, April 24 – On Tuesday morning track co-owners Mitch Hansen and Dave Adams made the tough decision to postpone the opening night of the Rice Lake Speedway for one more week.

“It was a very tough decision in one way, because we knew that if we could have raced this Saturday, we would have had a huge crowd and a jam packed pit area of race cars, given that no one else has been able to race so far this year,” Adams stated. “But the fact of the matter is that while the track itself is border line as far as being ready to race on, the pits and parking lots are very soft and we would have had a mess with stuck vehicles and created ruts for the whole Summer. Bottom line is, waiting one more week was the best choice.”

So, with this being the third and hopefully, final postponement, the 2018 racing season is scheduled to begin on Saturday night, May 5th. The pit gate will open an hour early on Saturday at 3 pm and drivers are encouraged to arrive at the track early and get their opening night paperwork completed. Draw cut off is at 6:30 pm with racing to follow immediately. Best Appearing Cars will be judged on opening night with the winners to be announced on May 12th.

The two practice sessions at the track have been rescheduled also. Practice will now be held on Wednesday, May 2nd and Thursday, May 3rd from 6-9 pm each evening.

The first special event of the racing season will now by on the second night of racing when the WISSOTA Late Models join the other five divisions for the Trackside Collectibles 40. The Late Model feature will pay $2,000 to win and $200 to start and will utilize the Challenge Series purse schedule. The other five divisions will also participate in a full program too which should make for one spectacular night of dirt track racing.

Five WISSOTA sanctioned divisions make up the regular show at Rice Lake with the Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks racing weekly. Special events are also planned for the Sprint Cars and Modifieds during the season.
