Rice Lake Speedway Practices and Opener Postponed

By Ed Reichert

Rice Lake WI, April 7 – It didn't come as a huge surprise, given the circumstances, but it was disappointing nevertheless.

Track co-owner Dave Adams made it official on Saturday when he announced that the two practice sessions, planned for April 11th and 12th and the season opener, slated for April 14th at the Rice Lake Speedway, had been postponed.

“Right now, we're taking it week by week and monitoring the improvement of conditions,” Adams stated. “We still have plenty of snow on the track and the rest of the speedway grounds. It just needs to warm up and we need a lot of melting to take place.”

At this point the two practice sessions have been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 18th and Thursday, April 19th and the 66th consecutive season opener is scheduled for April 21st with warm ups at 6:30 pm and racing to follow.

“We're hoping we just lose one week but there is certainly the possibility that it might be a couple of weeks before we're ready to race. We'll just have to see.”

Whenever that first opening night does take place, it will mark the beginning of an exciting season of dirt track racing with many special events slated over the course of the summer. Five classes of cars, all under the WISSOTA sanctioning, will be on the regular schedule with appearances by the winged and non winged sprints, the Late Models and the Mini Mods also scheduled. The first special event of the 2018 racing season will take place when the Late Models make their first of two appearances at the track this year on May 12th. The “Trackside Collectibles 40” will feature the WISSOTA Late Models running a $2,000 to win, $200 to start main event along with a full program in the other five classes. This event will mark the first time that the Late Models have run two special events at Rice Lake during the season with the Wollak Construction WISSOTA Challenge Series to return on July 28th.

Race fans should monitor the speedway website and face book page for updates on the status of next week's scheduled practices and opener. Check www.ricelakespeedway.net for updates or call Adams at 715-205-2861.
