Little Dream Street Stock Race Upcoming to Rice Lake Speedway

By Ed Reichert

Rice Lake WI – The biggest race of the 2022 racing season at the Rice Lake Speedway will soon be taking place.

The signature event for the speedway has long been the Street Stock Little Dream race and the twenty eighth annual edition of that race will be taking place on Tuesday night, August 2nd with a rain date of August 3rd.

One of the biggest Street Stock events in the entire United States, last year's race saw Brainerd Minnesota's Tim Johnson win this prestigious event for the second time and take home a record first place payoff of $27, 027 as he topped a field of fifty six other drivers from five states. And with the recent events that have allowed the Canadian border to again reopen, Canadian drivers are again expected to join the field after being excluded the last two years.

This race features WISSOTA Street Stocks as they go for one of the biggest purses for this type of race car during the entire racing season. The unique event sees the speedway set up a basic purse for this event and then that purse gets built up by the contributions of local and area businesses and race fans that are attending the event on that night. Each year it becomes a question whether the purse can continue to be greater, but so far each year the fans and businesses have continued to build the purse each year.

And much of the fun of the event is that while the drivers don't know just how much they will be racing for until just before feature time, the fans and businesses also add to the purse in lots of different ways with bonuses for many of the drivers who earn that money by being the highest finishing Ford, last place finisher and a host of special catagories as the money gets distributed in interesting and unusual ways. This creates an almost party atmosphere on race night and one that is hard to match at any other event.

As has been the case in recent years, Chris Stepan and his FYE Motorpsorts Promotions group will be administering the race again in 2022 and questions can be directed to him at 715-497-8916 or speedway co-owner Dave Adams at 715-205-2861.
