Trackside Collectibles 40 Paused By Rain; Doubleheader Slated May 27th

By Ed Reichert

Rice Lake WI, May 13th – Despite a damp and dreary Saturday with rain falling off and on for much of the day, the Rice Lake Speedway was able to open their gates for the first night of racing for the 2023 racing season, the seventy first consecutive season of dirt track racing at the track on Rice Lake's North side.

Along with a five class program of WISSOTA racing, the special event was the Trackside Collectibles 40 for the WISSOTA Late Models, an event paying two thousand dollars to the winner. Qualifying heat races were able to be held for all six divisions racing on Saturday but as the first feature race was just at the halfway point, the rains returned and although not hard, they were more than enough to slick up the track. With the rain not stopping and the cars unable to either dry the track or race under the slick conditions safely, the program was forced to be suspended for the night.

The Late Model portion of the program will be made up as part of a fantastic doubleheader night of Late Model racing on Saturday night, May 27th. The Swant Graber 40, a forty lap event for the WISSOTA Late Models paying two thousand dollars to win, was already scheduled for this night. Now, the feature race for the Trackside Collectibles 40, also paying two thousand dollars to win, will also be run that night, provided a spectacular doubleheader of Late Model racing. The Swant Graber 40 will include a full show of heats and a feature race for the Late Models and the main event for the Trackside Collectibles 40 will also be run. When that event takes the green, Sam Mars and defending champion from 2022, Darrell Nelson, will pace the field.

On May 27th, along with eighty laps of Late Model racing, a full program will also be held for the WISSOTA Pure Stocks, Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds and Super Stocks with the Modifieds having that night off.
The Rice Lake Speedway face book page will have more information such as event pricing for this event. Call track owners Dave Adams at 715-205-2861 or Mitch Hansen at 715-205-1122 with any questions.
