WISSOTA Releases Dates For The 2017 Late Model Challenge Series

The WISSOTA Challenge Series is excited to announce the release of the 2017 schedule with 17 premier events aboard that will once again span South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa.

The series will get things started early in the season this year with a big Memorial Weekend swing through western Minnesota. Kicking of the season will be I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN on Friday May 26th followed by a return to the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN on Saturday May 27th. Both of these events are set to be $2,000 to win shows.

Coming back right away the following weekend is the return of the Dakota Challenge. A big time race weekend that is also in conjunction with the Wheel Jam Weekend at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds in Huron, SD. This set of races begins with a $5,000 to win event at Dakota State Fair Speedway on Thursday June 1st. The series then hits the road to Aberdeen, SD for a $2,000 to win event at the Brown County Speedway for some bullring style racing action with the Bullet Sportswear Challenge. Once we drop the checkered flag there, we turn around and head back to Huron, SD for the Biggest Series race on the schedule, the Prostrollo's Challenge Cup XVII. This event will once again pay $10,000 to the feature winner and pay a generous $1,000 to start the big show. Wrapping up the weekend will be a return visit to the popular Casino Speedway in Watertown, SD for the Marilyn Olson Memorial race which is an action packed $2,071 to win 40 lap main event. Last years winner at Casino Speedway was #28 Jeff Provinzino. Jason Krohn in the 7K had the big haul for the weekend as he pulled in victories at both DSFS events landing him a healthy $15,000 in winnings for the weekend.

The Challenge Series will take a 1 week break and then return to action on Friday June 16th. Montevideo, MN will be rumbling when the series hits the gas again at Fiesta City Speedway for a $2,000 to win show that is sure to produce some speed on the 4/10 mile oval.

July 7th the Challenge Series will head south to Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, IA for another $2,000 to win show that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat! The F19 of Marshall Fegers was victorious last year. Challenge Series regulars along with drivers from South Dakota and Iowa should be in attendance for this 40 lapper.

Rounding out the month of July are three shows you don't want to miss! Thursday July 27th the I-94 Speedway will host their second Challenge Series event of the season. On Friday July 28th Superior Speedway will be hosting the annual Twin Ports Twin 25's. This is the second time it will be part of the WISSOTA Challenge Series schedule with last years winners being Travis Budisalovich and Rick Hanestad, and the first time that it will be held on a Friday night. This event features 2 A mains that pay $1,500 to win each. If a driver can win both features after a fan picked invert, they are in the money with a $1,000 bonus for winning both. Although a driver can win up to $4,000 that night, Challenge Series points will only be offered for the 1st feature of the night. To round out the weekend we head south to Rice Lake,WI on Saturday July 29th for a $2,000 to win event at Rice Lake Speedway. This is also a return visit and is sure to be a good one as fans saw some fantastic racing that ended with the 58 of A.J. Diemel in Victory Lane.

On August 11th the series starts a trio of events in Menomonie, WI at the Red Cedar Speedway for the Duane Mahder Memorial. Duane was a huge part of the local racing community and also the WISSOTA Challenge Series as he was the 2001 Challenge Series Champion and a 7 time race winner. The Speedway is paying $2,055 to win but also have plans to alter the payout in all positions by adding $55 as the iconic 55 was the number Daune used throughout his racing career. More information will be released as this is sure to be a huge event for all of WISSOTA. ABC Raceway in Ashland, WI will host a Challenge Series race on Saturday August 12th and will offer $2,000 to win the 40 lap main event. The Challenge Series last visited ABC Raceway in 2009 when Jake Redetzke picked up his 2nd ever Challenge Series victory. Defending race winner Darrell Nelson will try to defend his turf this year as the Challenge Series moves into Proctor, MN for the big weekend finale at the Proctor Speedway. Sunday August 13th the series will head up the hill to do battle for a $2,000 to win $200 to start main event!

The final weekend of the series will head to Grand Rapids, MN to race at the Grand Rapids Speedway on September 1st for a $2,000 to win $200 to start A Main. The WISSOTA Classic is an annual fall event for Grand Rapids Speedway and will feature the WISSOTA Challenge Series. September 2nd and 3rd is the return to Hibbing Raceway for the Labor Day Shootout. This two day event is a long standing tradition in the northern part of WISSOTA and is sure to draw cars from all over the region. With 2 complete shows, each night will pay $3,000 to win and $250 to start. This will be the final WISSOTA Challenge Series event and we will crown the 2017 Champion at the conclusion of the event!
