Rice Lake Speedway Opener Nears

By Ed Reichert

Rice Lake WI – With the annual Cedar Mall car show now completed, the Rice Lake Speedway moves even closer to the opening night activity, currently scheduled for Saturday night, April 23rd. A good group of drivers had their cars on display at the Mall car show, with entries from all five classes that compete regularly at the speedway entered. Along with that, a number of drivers from the Rice Lake Speed Pit kart track also had their rides on display. And with that show now completed, it is time to move forward and focus on the upcoming schedule.

Sponsors are stepping forward to get their names attached to nights of racing with announcements on just what businesses have reserved certain nights to be made soon. Among the highlights of the racing season are three appearances by the WISSOTA Late Models and the twenty eighth annual running of the Street Stock Little Dream race on August 2nd.

Double header programs on both Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend are all part of an agressive schedule put together by Adams-Hansen Inc. for the 2022 racing season and the Memorial Day weekend doubleheader should be especially huge with both the Late Models and for the first time in a number of years, an appearance by the IRA Winged 410 Sprint Cars all part of the blockbuster weekend.

The 70th anniversary season of the Rice Lake Speedway will be officially celebrated on July 16th which is also Hall of Fame night at the track. It is believed that the Rice Lake Speedway is the second longest continuously running race track in the state of Wisconsin with weekly programs dating back to September, 1952 with racing being held on a regular basis weekly since that time.

Five classes of race cars will compete at the track weekly with Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks all running under the WISSOTA sanctioning banner. Right now the racing teams are rushing to get their cars completed while track officials monitor the race track itself while hoping for some warm and dry weather.
