Here is the 2021 Rice Lake Speed Pit Kart Track schedule (tentative). We have always tried to keep our schedule around 7 races. This way families can plan weekend trips or go check out other tracks. We also have decided to have a night for each weekly division that pays a little money to win. This gives our local kids a chance to race for some cash! I’m also hoping to add 1/4 Midgets to one of our weekly shows once we see there schedule.

Classes are all the same as 2020 except we decided to drop our Grassroots class and replace it with the popular Sportsman 206 division. After talking to the vast majority of our local adult racers, they told me they would rather go this direction. This will be the exact same rules as Thunder Hill and Cedar Lake. Chad from Thunder Hill, is putting the finishing touches on his rules. Once he’s ready, we will put the rules up on the website. This division will make it much easier for our adults to be able to travel and race at the areas other two racetracks. I just want to say a Special Thanks to everyone that has supported the Adult Grassroots division the last two years. We do plan on having a couple specials during the year for our area Adult Animal & Clone Drivers. Stay Tuned.

We are also doing some upgrades to the facility over the winter into next spring. We recently purchased a new street sweeper from a local county shop. This is going to be a excellent machine for us. We are building a new water truck with a side arm wing, so we can lay water on the cushion more consistently. We will continue to form the curb on the top of the track, so our 250-500 guys have something to lean on.

Cook Well drilling will be installing a new infield drain this spring so we can finish our infield grass and Victory Lane.

Coach Mike D. was just hired to be our full time announcer. He is a great guy and a loyal racing fan his entire life.

Lastly, we have acquired lights and light poles from a racetrack that has been closed for a few years now. This will be awesome, especially at the 2021 Pumpkin 100.

Tech will be more strict in 2021. Our new tech guy is a former small engine builder and kart racer, so he will be a great addition to our team. We will also be enforcing code of conduct rules. The new code of conduct rules will be added to our website soon. One of the main rules is if you decide to take to social media and say unsportsmanlike things about an official, a driver, or the Speed Pit, you better push delete, otherwise if we catch it, you (and your driver) are no longer welcome at the Speed Pit. The evening did not start out well for Justin Oestreich Saturday night. First, he was late getting to the Rice Lake Speedway, arriving after the cut off time which meant he had to start at the back of the field for the first Modified heat race. Then, the opening attempt at that race saw Oestreich spin in the first corner and he went to the back of the pack once again. However, things went decidedly better after that. He finished third in his heat, redrew the number six starting spot for the Modified feature and then, after making a spectacular move that saw him split two contenders down the front chute and move into second, he swept past race leader Mark Hanson on lap nine and led the rest of the way to win the final race of the final event of the season at the Rice Lake Speedway. <<MORE>>

The 2020 racing season at the Rice Lake Speedway will conclude on Saturday night, September 5th with the annual Labor Day weekend special. This year the event will be a one night show, featuring a full racing program in all five classes that regularly compete at the track. That would include the WISSOTA sanctioned Pure Stocks, Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks and the Modifieds. Extra money will be on the line for all classes and with several of the area tracks either being off on Saturday or having already concluded their seasons, a good field of cars is expected in all classes.

An early race time will be in effect for this event with the pit gate opening at 3 pm. Draw cutoff is set for 5:45 pm, with hot laps to follow and racing scheduled for 6:30 pm. Spectator gates are planned to be open for 5 pm. The draw/redraw format for the racers will be in effect and there is no scheduled rain date should the weather intervene.

Brady Larson led all the way as the teenager won his first ever feature race at Rice Lake as he topped the Midwest Modified main event. Travis Loew made a spectacular three wide pass to win one of the best Street Stock main events seen at the track in quite some time and multi time feature winners Mike Schnider, Curt Myers and Mike Anderson all added to their win totals as the regular season wrapped up on Saturday. The only event left for racers here is next Saturday night, September 5th, when the speedway will hold a five division special to conclude what has been one of the shortest seasons in the track's long history. <<MORE>>

The Rice Lake Speedway has announced details about their upcoming Labor Day weekend, season wrap up event.

This year the program will be a one day show, on Saturday night September 5th with no rain date slated. All five classes that race on a regular basis at the track will be included in the program. This would be the Pure Stocks, Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks and Modifieds. All five classes will be running sanctioned for this event under the WISSOTA guidelines.

Extra money will be on the line for all classes for this race and an early starting time will be observed. Pit gates will open a at 3 pm with draw cut off for the drivers being at 545 pm with hot laps and racing to follow. The draw/redraw format will also be used for all five classes.

Saturday night was the final night for drivers to earn track points for the 2020 racing season at the Rice Lake Speedway. Five titles were on the line with two of them close enough that the race results for this evening would tell the tale. When the final checkered flags would wave, the point titlists for 2020 would include Mike Anderson, Cody Kummer and Mike Schnider. Travis Anderson and Eric Olson would win the two titles still to be determined with mechanical issues ending the efforts of those trying to catch them. It was Hall of Fame night at the Rice Lake Speedway and four new inductees were added to the Hall on Saturday. They included former racers Al Hajdasz and the late Gene Bolin along with Friends of the Speedway new members Larry Johnson and Jim Randall.
A very fast race track, the result of recent rains which made it heavy and full of traction, led to a number of breathtaking races and close battles but the top feature winners of the season so far continued their winning ways. Nick Traynor, a local driver from Barron Wisconsin, led all thirty five laps to win the 26th annual Street Stock Little Dream race Tuesday night at the Rice Lake Speedway. While few would have thought it possible, last year's record payoff for the race was topped as generous race fans and area businesses dug deep into their pockets to support the Street Stock drivers. When all the contributions had been tallied, Traynor would go home with a first place winner's share of $26,000, besting last year's record payoff by one thousand dollars in what is thought to be the highest paying race in the country for this division of race cars. <<MORE>> (Fry Pan Productions)

Kevin Adams has well over five hundred feature race wins to his credit in a variety of divisions since his first in a Street Stock way back in 1997 at this track. However, he is a raw rookie in the Late Model division, with just a handful of starts in the class in this his rookie year driving the fendered class of cars. However, that didn't seem to bother him at all Tuesday night here at the Rice Lake Speedway as Adams led all fifty five laps to win the fourth annual Mahder 55 Late Model event, a race honoring the memory of Duane Mahder, a former Late Model track champion at this track who was killed in a work place accident in 2016. <<MORE>> (Fry Pan Productions)

After waiting out a nearly two and a half hour rain delay part way through the program, the three feature races were contested in the late evening hours. However, the track was in excellent shape for the the last few races of the evening after the Late Models put on fifty five laps of their own and it produced some fine feature races. <<MORE>>

Several rounds of rain plus the threat of more severe storms in the early evening were more than enough to cause track owners Mitch Hansen and Dave Adams to cancel the racing program Saturday night at the Rice Lake Speedway. The grounds were already heavily soaked from eleven inches of rain during the week at the track and when following some early afternoon rains the threat for severe storms was posted, the program was canceled about 3:30 pm. With it being Kid's Night at the track and the likelihood of a large number of youngsters on the property, it was especially important to provide for their safety, thus the early call of the show. <<MORE>>

While the Rice Lake Speedway was closed on July 18th as the racers took the night off, when the track roars back to life on July 25th, it will mark the start of some of the biggest races of the 2020 racing season.

Details have been finalized by event promoter and fundraiser Scott “Bulldog” Andersen and Mitch Hansen and Dave Adams, the owners of the Rice Lake Speedway, to move the fourth annual Mahder 55 Late Model event to the Rice Lake Speedway. This event, which honors the champion Late Model driver Duane Mahder, who was killed in November 2016 in a work place accident, has been held for the previous three years at the Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie WI.

Last week Red Cedar officials officially announced that the 2020 racing season at the Red Cedar Speedway has been canceled due to county restrictions relative to the Covid 19 pandemic. <<MORE>>

The Rice Lake Speedway was back in action on Saturday night with its first race since the holiday weekend and fifth of the entire 2020 racing season. On another steamy night at the track, more balance was shown among the winners with four new drivers visiting victory lane for the first time here in 2020 while Mike Schnider became the top winner so far this season at the speedway. Mark “Mad Dog” Hanson led all the way to top the Modified feature and highlight the annual Firecracker special held Thursday night at the Rice Lake Speedway. On a steamy Saturday night, the third race program of the year was held at the Rice Lake Speedway and three drivers continued to show that they will be the teams to beat this season at the track as both Curt Myers and Mike Schnider won their third feature races in three tries while Mike Anderson won his second straight Modified main event with that class having been absent for the last program two weeks ago at the track. A number of Late Model teams were already on the grounds of the Rice Lake Speedway shortly after Noon, but by that time the rains had already started to fall. The steady rains just would not subside and with heavier precipitation on the way and the track becoming overly saturated, the track owners, Mitch Hansen and Dave Adams were forced to make the tough call to cancel Saturday night's racing program which was to have been the second appearance of the Late Models in 2020 at the speedway. <<MORE>>

Dave Adams, co-owner of the Rice Lake Speedway, announced this morning that WISSOTA sanctioned Late Models will return to the track this coming Saturday night, June 20th to compete in a full racing program.

The recent successful program including the Late Models on June 6th was a telling factor in adding the Late Models for this Saturday night. “They put on a great show and the fans loved them,” stated Adams, “so we decided to give them another opportunity to race on Saturday with the tracks running them still quite limited,” further stated Adams. <<MORE>>

Doar was the third different leader of the race after starting in the second row and watching Minnesota Iron Range drivers Jeff Massingill and Vesel swap the lead back and forth several times until Doar got his chance following a yellow flag slowdown for a spin. <<MORE>>

Along with the Late Model Trackside Collectibles 40 event raced Saturday night at the Rice Lake Speedway, four other WISSOTA sanctioned divisions also competed with only the Modified division having the night off. For Mike Schnider and Curt Myers, they made it two for two for 2020 as they won their second consecutive feature races in the Pure Stock and Super Stock classes respectively. Austin Ellis and Parker Anderson were also winners in a program that was expedited with threatening weather approaching. The Rice Lake Speedway announced this morning an increase in the Late Model purse for the upcoming WISSOTA Late Model event scheduled for Saturday night, June 6th. This race, which was just announced to the public yesterday, has already added some money to the purse.<<MORE>>

Rice Lake Speedway track owners Mitch Hansen and Dave Adams huddled after the season opener at the speedway was completed on Saturday night and today announced that they have added a Late Model special to the speedway calendar. The practice session scheduled for Thursday night, May 28th at the Rice Lake Speedway has been canceled.

“The track is simply too wet and we won't have enough time to dry it off yet today,” stated co-owner Dave Adams. “There is no point in tearing up the track, which has been excellent for a couple of private test sessions, just to get it ready for practice. We need to now focus on Saturday.”

On Saturday night, May 30th, the Sixty seventh consecutive year of racing at the Rice Lake Speedway will begin. All five WISSOTA classes that normally compete will be in action. Fans will notice modifications to the track's restaurant to comply with health directives from Barron County and if uncomfortable, fans are also encouraged, but not required, to wear face coverings.

The Rice Lake Speed Pit Kart track will also begin their season on Saturday with hot laps at Noon and racing at 1 pm. Come to the track early and make it a day as racing returns to Barron County.

After losing a month and a half of the season and having lost the first six races on the 2020 racing schedule , the Rice Lake Speedway is pleased to announce that the 2020 racing opener will be Saturday night, May 30th at 6:30 pm. It will be a busy day at the facility as The Speed Pit Kart Track will also open on Saturday too, with the Karts having hot laps at Noon and racing at 1 pm.

The opener will mark the latest season opener in track history as records indicate that the last time the track opened this late was in 1967 when the opener was on May 27th due to a number of early season rain outs. This year's circumstances were much different although on at least three of the canceled events this year, Saturday rains would have likely canceled the show even if it weren't for the health pandemic.

All five WISSOTA classes that race at the speedway will be in action including the Pure Stocks, Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks and Modifieds. It should be a year that brings some new names to victory lane as three of the five classes will find vacated defending point champions. Pure Stock titlist James Clausen has moved up to the Street Stocks while defending point champion in both the Midwest Modifieds and Modifieds, Kevin Adams, has moved up to the Late Models and will not be running at the track on a regular basis. Street Stock and Super Stock defending champions, Hunter VanGilder and Willie Johnsen Jr are both expected to return to defend their titles.

The race cars will be judged for the Best Appearing awards that will be handed out the second night of action and the Super Stock Bonus Night, scheduled for May 30th on the original schedule, will be rescheduled to a later date this Summer.

A new schedule for the season is expected to be announced within the week with a number of changes to be made, based on trying to reschedule some lost events and trying to avoid conflicts with other race tracks, who are having to deal with the same issues.

The pit gates will open at 3 pm on Saturday and drivers are asked to be as early as possible so that necessary opening night paperwork can be completed in a timely manner and the program can be started as scheduled.
A practice night is also scheduled for Thursday from 6-9 pm but this is tentative, depending on weather conditions over the next several days. Drivers and crews should be checked the speedway face book page for updates on that practice.

For the sixth straight week the Rice Lake Speedway has been forced to cancel their scheduled racing event, this one the Saturday night show on May 23rd. The owners of the Speedway met for three hours on Monday as they worked to try and find a way to get the racing program started this week. However, there were simply too many rules, regulations and requirements from both Barron County and their insurance carrier that they were unable to satisfy at this point so regretfully they were forced to cancel the program on what is typically one of their best weeks of the season.

They continue to work to bring the track in alignment with all the requirements from various governmental agencies and their insurance carriers and will once again shoot for next Saturday night, May 30th to start the season.

With Wisconsin's Safer-at-Home order struck down on May 13th, the status of the 2020 racing season at the Rice Lake Speedway is being examined as to when the speedway can and will reopen and what the remainder of the racing season's schedule will look like.

The WISSOTA Promoter's Association has postponed the opening weekend for the Structural Buildings Challenge Series events, slated for Saturday night, May 23rd at Rice Lake to be preceded by another event on Friday night, May 22nd at the Princeton Minnesota Speedway. <<MORE>>

One more week has passed and another Saturday night race will be lost by the Rice Lake Speedway. According to track co-owner Dave Adams, “ We are monitoring the situation constantly and if anything changes, we will react immediately.” Currently Barron County will only allow ten people on the grounds of the speedway at any one time as the track has been trying to arrange some private test sessions, and clearly without being allowed to have spectators to enjoy the action, there will be no racing until that happens.

So, the regular five class program scheduled for Saturday night, May 16th has been canceled, the fifth program lost for the as yet to be started 2020 racing season. The speedway is still hoping against hope that the Structural Buildings WISSOTA Challenge Series race for Late Models, one of the biggest events on the schedule, can be held on May 23rd but that race also remains highly questionable. Race fans and competitors should monitor the media outlets and the track website early next week for an announcement on the status of that race.

The Rice Lake Speedway was scheduled to host the WISSOTA Late Models for their first visit of the year on Saturday night, May 9th for the Trackside Collectibles 30. With the continued shut down of racing in the state, that event will obviously not take place. Management hopes to reschedule that event to a later date this Summer once racing begins and tracks are able to finalize their schedules for the rest of the racing season.

The Rice Lake Speedway Kart Track, located on the grounds of the Rice Lake Speedway, has announced that the track has been branded with a new name along with also revealing some major improvements for the 2020 racing season and also announcing its first scheduled event.

The speedway, which was built on the Southeast corner of the Rice Lake Speedway property, was opened in 2019 by Kevin and Megan Adams, who are the small track organizers and managers. This week however, a new name for the track, new logo and new face book page are all being rolled out by the owners. <<MORE>>

With no change in the status of when the Rice Lake Speedway will be able to open their 2020 racing season, track owners Dave Adams and Mitch Hansen want the fans and drivers at the track to know that they are constantly monitoring the ever changing situation.

“We continue to watch as things develop and as soon as we get the word from the state that we can once again race, we will be ready to go,” stated Adams. However, the track will not consider running an event without the spectators as some tracks have been proposing.

“Our spectators are very important to us, and we would not consider running an event unless the spectators are also allowed to attend,” Adams offered. So far the track has lost its first two planned events in April and the hope is that before too much more time elapses that the track will be able to open sometime in May.

In the meantime, drivers continue to prepare and ready their cars for the racing season. In the latest news locally, defending Pure Stock point champion James Clausen from Barron has announced that he will be moving up to the Street Stock class in 2020 and will prove to be a formidable challenger for Rookie of the Year status in the Street Stock class. Also moving up will be Rice Lake driver Denny Cutsforth who, along with continuing to race in the Late Model class, has also converted last year's Midwest Modified into a full blown Modified and will be a new challenger in that class, which should be wide open with the announcement that defending champion Kevin Adams has moved up to the Late Models.

With the sixty eighth consecutive season opener at the same location set to occur at some point this Summer, the Rice Lake Speedway, along with several interested race followers, have been working this past Winter and Spring to finalize some important records relative to the track. Specifically, work has been ongoing in establishing an all time feature winners list for the speedway, and recently discovered information has allowed them to finalize the most accurate records to date. <<MORE>>

Along with many of the events scheduled for our state and country, the 2020 racing plans for the Rice Lake Speedway remain in a state of flux.

According to speedway co-owner Dave Adams, “We continue to take things on a week by week basis and keep monitoring the situation for updates.” The speedway is still scheduled to open for the racing season on Saturday night, May 2nd but as the days pass, that date seems less and less likely to happen.

With the Governor's recent announcement of the Badger Bounce Back Plan and the criteria involved with the progressions of that program, it seems unlikely that race tracks will receive the go ahead to start their racing seasons before the Safer at Home Order timeline is reached on May 26th. However, the track is still preparing to respond if that order is altered or other developments occur that would allow an earlier starting date.

Race fans should continue to monitor the speedway Facebook page and other media outlets for updates as to when the season does in fact open. If racing doesn't occur until after Memorial Day, a minimum of six nights of racing will be lost including two appearances by the WISSOTA Late Models.

One thing that fans can expect is a completely altered race schedule for the season from the one originally developed long before this Pandemic occurred. This new schedule will be released as soon as possible once the season opener can be officially determined. The Rice Lake Speedway Hall of Fame Committee met recently to select candidates to add to the speedway's Hall of Fame. In these unusual times, the Committee was not able to meet in person to select the new members but through various other means of communication, the voting was done and the candidates selected.<<MORE>>

Just like with most of the world right now, the 2020 racing season at the Rice Lake Speedway is in a state of flux.

Scheduled to open for the sixty eighth consecutive year on April 18th, that event will not take place based on the country's current situation. In fact right now, it is likely that all racing in the month of April will be lost unless there is a dramatic positive change in the coming days.

According to speedway co-owner Dave Adams, “right now we are taking things on a week by week basis. The track will be ready and we will open as soon as we get the official word from state and federal authorities that we can gather as a group.”<<MORE>>

The Rice Lake Speedway car show, an annual event held at Rice Lake's Cedar Mall, has been canceled. The event, scheduled to be held on April 3-5, has been canceled by Mall management due to the fact that the Mall has been closed and the reopening date is uncertain.

According to Rice Lake Speedway coordinator for this event, Kevin Adams, it is possible that a one day event may be held at an alternative site, depending upon when governmental action will allow crowds to once again gather. <<MORE>>

We are excited to announce our 2020 Kart Track Schedule. This will be a nice relaxing schedule throughout the summer.

2019 was an amazing first year for our little kart track. Averaging almost 50 racers per week in only 6 divisions.

Not to bad considering there was only 3 karts in Barron county in 2018. This wouldn’t have been possible without endless volunteer help, great sponsors, but most of all,  our racers and fans! We will continue to work hard on improvements.

We will once again be doing Track Points for all divisions! New for 2020 will be the R-Box Wing division for 7-8 year olds.

The Racetrack itself will be getting a little facelift in the spring. From adjusting the track shape, new bleachers, new scale, in depth tech, & more fencing. 2020 Rules are  available at the tracks website www.ricelakespeedway.net under “Kart Track” tab as well as Rules.  Thanks again to everyone for supporting our track, and special thanks to our surrounding kart tracks for sharing info and trying to make this sport grow bigger. The Rice Lake Speedway held their annual awards banquet on Saturday night, February 15th at the Rice Lake Elks Lodge. For the first time, with the new kart track up and running on the speedway grounds, a combined banquet crowned champions from both tracks and the crowd was reported to be the largest ever turnout for a track banquet. Honored were the top ten drivers in track points in each of the track's five divisions along with the six champions in the kart classes. Special awards were also given out and the 2019 season was reviewed along with the announcing of the 2020 track schedules for both the speedway and kart track. <<MORE>>

The awards banquet celebrating the 2019 racing season at the Rice Lake Speedway will be held on Saturday night, February 15th. However, this year's banquet will find a couple of significant changes being a part of the banquet.

For the first time, instead of a formal, sit down social event, the banquet will be more informal with an appetizer buffet featuring pulled pork and ham sandwiches, Smokey's, meatballs and more. This will allow management to reduce the cost of attending the banquet. <<MORE>>

The dirt track with the longest longevity of any track in the northern part of Wisconsin, the Rice Lake Speedway, has set its racing schedule for the 2020 racing season.

Set to start its sixty eighth consecutive season of dirt track racing at its facility on the North side of Rice Lake, the speedway will once again offer racing from Mid April through the Labor Day weekend at its third mile banked track. A wide variety of racing divisions will see action at the speedway once again in 2020 with a number of higher paying events among its schedule. <<MORE>>
